Introduction
Choosing a television for a bedroom, small living room or entertainment corner can be challenging when you want good picture quality, useful smart features and powerful sound without buying a very large TV. The TCL 40 inches Smartchoice Full HD Smart QLED Google TV (40V5C) aims to deliver a balanced entertainment experience with its QLED panel, Full HD resolution, Google TV platform and Dolby Audio support.
This television combines a 40-inch screen with a metallic bezel-less design, built-in streaming applications and wireless connectivity. It could be a practical option for people who mainly watch movies, TV shows, YouTube videos and everyday television content.
Let’s explore its display, sound, smart features, connectivity, advantages and limitations to help you decide whether it suits your needs.
Design and Build Quality
The TCL 40V5C features a metallic bezel-less design that gives it a modern appearance. Its slim-looking screen borders can help content feel more immersive, while the black finish makes it suitable for different room interiors.
With a listed weight of approximately 4.58 kg, the television is relatively lightweight for its size. You can place it on a compatible TV stand or wall-mount it using a supported mounting arrangement. The listed VESA mounting standard is 100 × 100 mm, but confirm the mounting hardware and installation requirements before purchasing a wall bracket.
Its 40-inch screen is a sensible size for bedrooms, compact living rooms and smaller entertainment spaces.
Display Quality: Full HD QLED Panel
One of the main highlights of this television is its 40-inch Full HD QLED display. With a resolution of 1920 × 1080 pixels, it can deliver clear and detailed pictures for everyday viewing, including movies, television programmes, online videos and sports.
QLED technology is designed to deliver rich colours and an engaging viewing experience. TCL also lists HDR10 support, 100% Color Volume Plus, Micro Dimming and a 178-degree viewing angle among the display features.
The listed maximum brightness is 300 nits, which should be considered when choosing a viewing location. The screen may be more comfortable to watch in a room with controlled lighting than in a space with strong direct sunlight.
The television also lists a 60Hz refresh rate and Ai-MOTION technology. These features are intended to support everyday motion handling, although this is not a high-refresh-rate gaming television.
For buyers who mainly stream Full HD content, watch regular television or enjoy casual console gaming, the display specifications offer a useful combination. However, viewers specifically looking for 4K resolution will need to consider a different model.
Sound Quality: 28W Maximum Output with Dolby Audio
Sound is another important part of the entertainment experience. The supplied specifications list a maximum audio output of 28 watts with Dolby Audio support.
This output should be suitable for everyday television viewing in many small and medium-sized rooms. Dialogue in television programmes, online videos and films should be easier to enjoy without necessarily adding an external speaker system.
The listing also describes surround-style audio. However, Dolby Audio branding alone does not guarantee a dedicated multi-speaker surround-sound setup. Actual performance will depend on the TV’s speaker configuration, audio processing and room acoustics.
If you want a more cinematic experience with stronger bass, a soundbar or external speaker system may still be worth considering.
Specification note: The product headline mentions 24W audio, while the detailed specifications state 28W maximum output. Confirm the exact rated output with the seller or TCL before purchasing.
Google TV and Smart Features
The TCL 40V5C runs Google TV, providing access to a range of streaming and entertainment applications. The supplied listing mentions Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, JioCinema, Disney+ Hotstar, SonyLIV and Zee5, among other services. App availability can vary by region and software version.
Google Assistant support makes voice-based searches and supported commands more convenient. Instead of navigating every menu manually, you can use compatible voice controls to search for content or perform supported actions.
The television also lists a web browser and screen-mirroring functionality. Screen mirroring can be useful when you want to display compatible content from a smartphone on the larger screen.
For everyday streaming, these smart features can reduce the need for a separate streaming device.
Performance, Storage and Connectivity
The television comes with a listed 64-bit quad-core processor, 1GB RAM and 8GB internal storage. These specifications provide the basis for its smart-TV functions, but the available RAM and storage are relatively modest by comparison with many dedicated streaming devices.
For the best experience, keep unnecessary applications to a minimum and remember that some internal storage is occupied by the operating system and pre-installed software.
Connectivity options listed for the TCL 40V5C include:
- 2 HDMI ports: For compatible gaming consoles, set-top boxes and other devices.
- 1 USB port: For compatible USB media and accessories.
- Wi-Fi 4: For wireless internet connectivity.
- Ethernet/LAN: For a wired network connection.
- Antenna and satellite inputs: For supported television connections.
- Digital audio output: For compatible external audio equipment.
- AV input adapter and headphone connection: Listed in the supplied specifications; verify the exact port arrangement before purchase.
The TV also lists Bluetooth 5.0 in the detailed connectivity information, although this should be checked against the current product documentation if Bluetooth accessories are important to you.
Two HDMI ports are useful for a typical setup, but users with several permanently connected devices may need an HDMI switch.
Is It Suitable for Gaming?
The 60Hz Full HD panel makes this television suitable for casual gaming and compatible consoles that support its resolution and refresh rate. Its 40-inch screen can work well in a bedroom or compact gaming setup.
However, the supplied specifications do not establish support for HDMI 2.1, variable refresh rate (VRR), 120Hz gaming or other advanced gaming features. Buyers looking for competitive gaming performance should verify input lag and supported gaming modes before making a decision.
For casual gaming, sports games and general entertainment, it may be sufficient. It is not the best choice if your priority is advanced 4K or high-refresh-rate gaming.
Power Consumption and Energy Efficiency
The supplied listing specifies 80W power consumption and annual energy consumption of approximately 95 kWh, alongside a 1-star energy rating.
Actual electricity use will depend on brightness settings, daily viewing time, standby behaviour and usage conditions. Buyers who keep their television switched on for many hours every day may want to compare energy ratings and consumption figures before deciding.
The listed standby power shutoff feature may also help reduce unnecessary standby consumption under supported conditions.
Warranty and After-Sales Support
The supplied warranty information states that the television comes with a one-year manufacturer’s warranty from the date of purchase. The remote control is listed with a six-month warranty.
Keep your purchase invoice and packaging details, and check the warranty terms for coverage exclusions, installation requirements and service procedures. The supplied listing provides TCL India contact details, but confirm the current contact information through TCL’s official support channels before making a service request.

5 Negative Things to Consider

- 60Hz refresh rate: It lacks the higher refresh rates sought by some advanced gaming users.
- Limited listed memory: The 1GB RAM and 8GB storage may restrict multitasking and available space for applications.
- Only one USB port: Users who connect multiple USB devices may need an alternative arrangement.
- Specification inconsistencies: The supplied information differs on audio output and includes details that should be confirmed before purchase.
Who Should Buy This Television?
The TCL 40V5C may suit:
- People looking for a 40-inch TV for a bedroom or compact living room.
- Viewers who mainly watch streaming services and online videos.
- Buyers who prefer a QLED display and Google TV in one package.
- Casual gamers who are comfortable with Full HD resolution and a 60Hz refresh rate.
- Households that want built-in smart features without relying on a separate streaming stick.
It may be less suitable for people who specifically need 4K resolution, advanced high-refresh-rate gaming features or extensive application storage.
Final Verdict
The TCL 40V5C brings together a 40-inch Full HD QLED display, Google TV, HDR10 support, Dolby Audio and a modern metallic bezel-less design. Its combination of streaming applications, voice assistance and everyday connectivity makes it worth considering for compact entertainment spaces.
Its main limitations are the Full HD resolution, 60Hz refresh rate, modest listed memory and a few inconsistencies in the supplied specifications. The final value will also depend on its current selling price and the availability of local after-sales service.
Overall, the TCL 40-inch Smartchoice QLED TV is worth comparing with other televisions in the same price range, particularly if you want a compact smart TV for everyday entertainment. Before ordering, confirm the audio output, port configuration and current warranty terms.
